  • During their interaction, the ghost reveals the King's true death to Hamlet: “but know, thou noble youth, / The serpent that did sting thy father’s life / Now wears his crown” (I.iv.37-38). The ghost explains to Hamlet that the current king, Claudius, was the one who murdered his father.

  • After Hamlet's interaction with the ghost, he meets up with Marcellus and Horatio. Hamlet orders Marcellus and Horatio to swear that nothing has happened to him tonight and to ignore any insanity he might display further on. Marcellus and Horatio swear on the sword after the pressure from Hamlet and the Ghost.

  • Following the ghost's departure, based on his revelation Hamlet states, “So, uncle, there you are. Now to my word. / It is ‘Adieu, Adieu. Remember me.’ / I have sworn’t (I.iv.110-113). Upon hearing the truth of his father’s passing, Hamlet accepts the ghost's vow to get revenge on Claudius.
