- algal blooms are when algae spreads too much and starts making water resources anoxic.

- How does it form
- algal blooms are created when fertilizers and pesticides enter water resources and algae consumes them algae grows at an excessively fast rate . The algae then starts to block sunlight for the underwater plantswhich will cause them to die. After the plants die, a lot of bacteria will be created making the water anoxic.
- Miley is starting to notice that their crops are becoming bad, so she suggests an idea to use fertilizers and pesticides. how does Ashley react...
- Effects of Algal Bloom
- Oh, no they are bad. Algal blooms block sunlight for the underwater plants the need it causing them to die. After that, bacteria is created to decompose the remains of the dead plants. While doing that the bacteria is letting out more nutrients for the algae. Then the water becomes anoxic because of the bacteria making the marine animals.
- Ok, now I know pesticides and fertilizers cause algal blooms, but that doesn't mean that they are bad.
- Miley still doesn't understand what algal blooms are, so she doesn't understand why the farm doesn't use these chemicals
- Solutions
- Yeah, some examples are to build deep enough walls that can be barriers for fertilizers and pesticides. Another solution is for farmers to just locate their farms away from water
- Ashely has explained what algal blooms are, but miley does not know why they are harmful. What happens if the water it anoxic?

- Miley has understood the effects of algal blooms and why they should be stopped although she wonders how can they be prevented
- The girls have created solutions or ways to prevent algal blooms
