The struggle of addiction and reaching out for help

  • It hasn't been that long, you look so tiny, have you been okay?
  • Hey girl! It's been a while!!
  • Yes I did , and as a doctor I can tell you have not been taking care of yourself, your small as a stick and your skin tones completely drained 
  • I've been fine, I see your scrubs! you became a doctor?
  • An old friend from highschool walks out of a coffee shop around the corner from the hospital she works at, when she walks out she notices Anika. 
  • I started experimenting with drugs after we left highschool , and now I can't gain weight , I'm always dizzy, my head pounds every second of everyday, I genuinely look and feel completely drained and unhealthy.
  • When Anika stands from the table she was sitting at to catch up with her old friend, her friend realizes her drastic weight loss
  • My mother struggled with addiction, and even lost her rights to me due to her problems. I understand it's hard once you start but you have to take steps towards sobriety to due better for yourself and the people who care for you. I know a great rehabilitation center I can recommend to you
  • I want the help, would you mind taking me to this center please?
  • After her obvious signs of addiction began to be called out, Anika becomes uncomfortable and attempts to change the subject
  • You got this girl! Stay in contact with me I'd love to help you along this journey
  • Anika brings her old friend to a quiet street bench to finally come clean with somebody 
  • Anika's friend offers personal experience with family members that experienced addiction and offers help
  • Anika realizes the help she needs and takes her friends offer to go to rehab. She plans on doing better for her health and family when she's released.
  • Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to start over, maybe I can rekindle a relationship with my family once I get out !
