  • The lottery is so pointless.

  • The Hutchinson family.
  • It is June 27th, a warm summer day and the children are happily gathering stones in the village square.

  • Oh no, I got chosen!
  • The lottery was going great until Bill Hutchinson's name was drawn from the black box. Tessie, Bill's wife, was complaining that her husband didn't have enough time to draw fairly, saying. "It isn't fair"
  • Falling Action
  • It's not fair! It's not right! We should stop killing people for no reason!
  • The Hutchinson family is called up to the old, black box. Mr. Summers puts five slips of paper into the box.

  • Tessie draws the slip of paper with the black dot on it.
  • Why me! Why me!!
  • Tessie begins to scream that it isn't fair, that it isn't right. While she is screaming, everyone begins to circle around her, getting ready to stone her.
  • As Tessie screams, a stone hits her in the head. Old Man Warner is loving this and and encourages the villagers to keep throwing stones at Tessie.
  • Keep throwing stones at her. I don't like Tessie anyway.
