  • The Louisiana Purchase took place in 1803. Back then, people had very little "elbow room" or space to live. But soon, The United States bought the Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million dollars.
  • The Battle At The Alamo

  • The Lewis and Clark Expedition was between 1804 and 1806. Lewis and Clark traveled from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Northwest and back. They were sent there by President Thomas Jefferson to explore the Louisiana Territory which the United States had bought from France.
  • The Oregon Trail

  • Back in the early 1800s, Congress and President Andrew Jackson passed the Indian Removal Act. This stated that Native Americans had to give up their land and move west of the Mississipi River into a reservation home. The Indian Removal Act was caused when pilgrims moved on to Indian Territory. The Native Americans had lived on that same land for 1,000's of years. But when the Indians refused to give up their land, President Andrew Jackson ordered the U.S. Army to march the Indians off by gunpoint which led to the journey of The Trail Of Tears.

  • In the early 1830s, Texians fought a battle against Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna (The President of Mexico)'s troops at a historic site called The Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. Former President Of Mexico, San Antonio promised he would kill every Texan there. And, so he kept his promise. San Antonio killed more than 180 Texans at the site. Soon, when Texans won their independence their battle cry was "Remember The Alamo!"
  • The Oregon Trail was a dangerous, 2,000-mile journey between 1849 and 1890. The Oregon Trail had started when pioneers soon learned that the west had gold and they had a chance to strike it rich. And so many families moved west to get a new start and get wealthy. But what they didn't know is that they would have to face many problems along the Oregon Trail.

  • The California Gold Rush began in 1849 when a man named James Marshall found gold in Sutter Creek near Coloma, California. James tried to keep his find a secret but eventually, word spread about the gold. back then, New York was a dull city. It had just been founded and was on the verge of financial collapse. When people in New York figured out about the gold they decided to move west and leave everything behind. And so, that was the start of the California Gold Rush.
