Storyboard Description

Multiple Intelligences

Texte du Storyboard

  • I am Howard Gardner
  • I published a book in 1983 called "Frames of Mind".
  • I am a psychologist at Harvard University.
  • In my book I presented my theory of multiple intelligences.
  • I found that standardized testing wasn't always fair because it only tested one type of talent or gift.
  • Teachers really liked my theory because they knew that they could help more students by individualizing instruction to help them.
  • We are all gifted in different areas!
  • I am gifted in linguistics.
  • Math for me! I like logic!
  • I am a gifted visual artist.
  • My strength is music.
  • I am athletic.
  • Interpersonal and Intrapersonal relationships.
  • I am a naturalist.
  • Thank you Howard!
  • We need to acknowledge everyone's strengths!
  • How can I use this information to help my studnets?
  • Give students more choice when they choose projects. They can run with their strengths and they will feel more success!
  • You said you are a naturalist? If I were your teacher I would help you find a project that relates to nature.
  • You could research something in nature, draw it, write about it and essentially create your own project!
  • That sounds like a project that I would really enjoy!
  • That is the whole idea!
  • Students can create a learning activity or a project that showcases several of the multiple intelligences and also helps them learn an important concept with a passion project or inquiry based learning project.
  • An example of this could be applied to a science lesson about life cycles.
  • In project based learning students could create 5 different mini projects or activities that utilize different intelligences. For linguistics, students could choose to write poetry or write a story about life cycles. Artists could create an illustration. Musically gifted students would create a musical composition.
  • Athletic students could create a movement activity or a dance.Students gifted in Interpersonal and Intrapersonal relationships can do group work or reflective activities.
  • With computer skills and media projects , students can explore a variety of activities and create projects that are meaningful to them and showcase their strengths.
  • I am glad that my theory has been able to help students find more joy in the learning process.
