- Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood are horrible parents, with mixed up priorities. They do not care about Matilda and frown upon her brilliance.
- Matilda attends school and not only reveals her brilliance, but also witnesses the wicked ways of The Trunchbull.
- Matilda and Miss Honey confide in each other. Matilda uses her powers to help Miss Honey get her house and money back by frightening Miss Trunchbull.
