- In my episode, the theme I am focusing on is this: be honest and truthful as much as you can.
- One quotation from Holes that supports the theme here is the following: “Zero's "confession" seemed to bring him some relief. The muscles in his face relaxed. As he drifted into sleep, Stanley softly sang him the song that had been in his family for generations” (Sachar 77).
- These details show the theme to be honest because in this quote, Zero told Stanley about the shoes. Stanley is pretty calm about it. It really helped their friendship too, because now Stanley realizes that Zero is honest and compassionate, and Zero feels better because he’s not lying to him.
- Another quotation from Holes that supports the theme here is the following: “The Warden thought a moment. "Okay, I want you to destroy all of his records.” (Sachar p. 63).
- This shows the theme to be honest and not to lie because in this quote, the Warden deletes his file and lies about it later. Deleting his file makes her even more suspicious. As a result, all 3 of these bozos get arrested, and now no one can get hurt and the camp is safe.
