  • The tyrannical acts of the British government led the colonies to the emergence of the revolution against the British.
  • The Events Leading to the Revolutionary War
  • The first occurence that led to the revolution was the stamp act of 1765 on march 22nd.
  • The Stamp Act of 1765
  • This tax is outrageous. One shilling extra for every page is absurd!

  • The Townshend Act of 1767
  • The Townshend act collected 13,200$ in taxes in one year. That made up 35% of all taxes collected that year
  • The British ruled the colonies with no care for their citizens. The British government passed many acts that have oppressed the colonials. https://www.history.com/news/american-revolution-causes
  • The Boston Massacre and Tea Party
  • 1770 in Massachusetts the colonists were enraged at all the taxes put in motion by England. The taxes included tea, glass, paper, paint, and lead. On march 5th, a patriotic mob was throwing rocks, snowballs, and sticks at the British soldiers. The soldiers retaliated on the colonists and killed 5. This was perfect for patriotic press members to quickly release a slight amount of truth and propaganda in the articles written. The Boston Tea Party was another protest from colonists that was protesting the Tea Act.
  • The Stamp Act of 1765 added a tax on most paper goods in the colonies. The colonists payed the tax which would be used by the British to restore their finances after the seven year war against France took place. Paper was one of the most taxed goods to be bought at the time.   • The Coercive Acts
  •  The Boston port bill was to close down the Boston harbor. The Massachusetts government act was to replace the Massachusetts government with an appointed government officials as well as giving power to the military governor. 
  • The Townshend act added a tax to all imported goods going to america.  The British government thought this act would not anger the colonist like the stamp act. The British did not want the citizens to protest the act.   • The Tea act would allow the east india company to monopolize. This was the turning point for the colonists. The British kept taxing the colonies without the say of the colonies whether or not they would like it. So the patriots went onto a tea boat in Boston and dumped and estimated 90,000 lbs of tea into the sea. https://www.history.com/topics/american-revolution/boston-massacre
  • The administration of justice act was allowing British officials to have the choice of being tried in England or a different colony. Only officials charged with a capital offence were allowed this right.
