- The Israelites in Egypt (Exodus 1:11-14)
- Pharaoh asks two Hebrew midwives, Puah and Shiphrah, to kill all the Israelite male babies. (Exodus 1:16)
- The Hebrew women give birth, and look at them in the place of childbirth; if it's a male you shall kill it but if it's a female you shall raise up.
- The Pharaoh sent for the midwives (Exodus 1:18)
- The Hebrew women were not like the Egyptian women because they are agile, and have given birth before the midwife comes to them.
