- An old woman and her two daughters live on a farm and "she supported herself and her two daughters"(9).
- The rooster Chanticleer is talking to one of his wives Pertilote.
- Chanticleer tells Pertiole about his horrible dream.

- Pertiole tells him to man up and to not worry about the dream he had.
- Be a man don't worry about that dream.
- " He was so ravished by the foxes flattery"(504), that the fox takes him in his mouth.
- Your singing is very beautiful!
- The old lady and her daughter hear the commotion outside and scare away the fox so that Chanticleer could escape.
