  • Now we are in the iguana park, I'm going to give you a tour.
  • The history
  • The first parochial church was erected in Guayaquil in 1688, when the city was situated on the ridges between the Carmen and Santa Ana mountains. A necessary space was left for La Plaza Mayor in front of that tiny church.
  • Why is it called like that?
  • The Seminario Guayaquil park is known by this name because in its well ornamented gardens live dozens of iguanas that become a singular attraction for tourists who say that they give a prehistoric and natural vision to the park.
  • How did the iguanas went to the park
  • And for those who are wondering how the green iguanas got to this park, historian Hoyos has the answer. It was the 1960s, and some Mormons were trying to bring some of them back to their home countries. In response to the guayaquileos' rejection, the reptiles were released in the park.
  • What the iguanas represent
  • This animal has become an honorary inhabitant of the city because it not only contributes to maintaining Guayaquil's ecosystem but also is a symbol of the city.
  • WHat do they eat
  • Food: a species of herbivore that consumes fruits, plants, etc. Approximately 55 years old. Size: up to 1 metro. Three species are recognized: subcristatus, pallidus, and rosada.
