- It looks like two criminals are trying to rob a mall. These criminals are considered the pathogens. Pathogens are microorganisms that can cause disease.
- The robbers are trying to go into the store but the door and walls are blocking them from getting in. They are the first line of defense. In our immune system our skin and mucous or our first line of defense. Oh no the robbers got past the door!
- As they run into the mall some customers notice them and start screaming. They act as the second line of defense alerting everyone else in the mall. Inflammation and fever are some examples in our second line of defense. Our first and second line of defense are innate immunity, they are not specific to any robbers or pathogens.
- the worker hears the screams of the customers and runs to hit the alarm button which alerts the police. The button acts as the third line of defense, the acquired immunity. The alarm button was placed in the mall to get help faster. It acts like a vaccine, you get a vaccine to help your body fight a virus faster, to build memory.
- The police arrive quickly and arrest the robbers. They act as the antibodies which attach themselves to the antigens and destroy them. In this case the cops took down the bad guys!
- The customers and employees are now safe and happy. They successfully fought of the invaders ! YAYYY
