- Stanley's grandad talks about his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather who has brought bad luck of the generations of the Yelnats. His grandfather "Elya," was said to brought a bad luck curse to the family. Well the family didn't believe in curses. If one the of the family members had bad luck they would blame it on him.
- Stanley Yelnats is sent to trial because he was charged for stealing famous worn out shoes. Stanley said that he didn't steal them and fell on his head while walking, and nobody believed in him. But the truth was that he didn't steal them. The judge asks him to go to jail or Camp Green Lake. Stanley has never went to camp so he chooses camp but things don't turn out well.

- "You may go to jail, or you may go to Camp Green Lake."
- I've never been to camp before. Maybe go to camp?
- Stanley is at Camp Green Lake and has an assignment to dig holes in a dry lake for hours in the scorching sun. A man said to Stanley "If you find anything interesting come to me and tell me so I can show the warden." said Mr. Pendanski. While at Camp, Stanley meets a group of kids, X-ray, Armpit, Squid, Zig-zag and Zero. They called themselves this because they liked it, even if it was weird. Stanley becomes friends with Zero because they always pick on him. After digging, Stanley finds initial KB and shows it to Zero and hides it in the hole they found it in. But the Warden is excited because she wants to find the treasure of Kissin Kates Treasure.
- "How you doin'?" "Well the first one is the hardest." Said Magnet.
- "Not real good," said Stanley.
- One day Zero was digging until the warden and Mr. Pendanski came to test Zero. Since Zero didn't know how to read and write it affected him how the warden and Mr. Pendanski bullied him. The Warden was pronouncing words and until Zero got h - a - t wrong. Zero said "Chat" but the Mr. Pendanski laughed and said he was super dumb. After he said that, Zero got a shovel and hit him in the head and ran away and didn't return to camp. Stanley didn't find him so he looked harder.
- "How about h - a - t?" asked the Warden.
- "He's a genius, all right!" Said Mr.Pendanski
- Zero concentrated and said, "Chat."
- As Stanley ran away and headed towards Big Thumb, he found Zero in an overturned boat. Zero has been surviving of these old peach bottles from the old boat. Zero and Stanley heads towards Big Thumb and were starving. As they looked around the mountain they drank "sploosh." Zero passes out due to exhaustion and Stanley carries him up the mountain and they eat raw onions to survive. But both of them decided to go back and look for the treasure.
- "What is it?" Zero whispered.
- "Here eat this." "A hot fudge sundae. Said Stanley.
- Digging through the hole where they found the initials KB, they found a metal suitcase which is known as Kissin Kate's treasure until Stanley got his hands on the suitcase. When he got the suitcase, yellow spotted lizards came and began crawling up on the suitcase. Stanley knew that they were venomous so he shake them off and the warden pulled him up like she wanted it. The Warden was trying to get the suitcase while Stanley's lawyer stopped it and freed Stanley and Zero. Stanley's lawyer freed them and the Warden lost everything. Now a new man took care of the Camp. And both of the boys were droven home and Zero and Stanley split the treasure.
- "I advise you do not Stanley." Said Stanley's Lawyer.
- "Open the suitcase!""It's mine!" Said the Warden.
