- So it begins
- The story starts with the children playing and collecting rocks, which at this point in the story seems pointless but as the start escalates you'll see why.
- The dark circle
- It isn't fair
- As the adults arrive in the middle of town the adults call upon their children so that the lottery can start.
- Round Two
- The lottery finally starts and Mr. Summer starts to call up the names of the oldest man in a household while advising them not to open their tickets until the end of round one.
- Stoned
- Once round one has ended everyone unfolds their tickets. Bill Hutchinson had gotten the dark circle and his wife Tess pleaded that it wasn't fair, here is where most readers realize this lottery isn't about winning.
- Bill's got it....
- In round two Tess Hutchins is the receiver of the ticket, and this is where the earlier mention of rocks came into play and what came next was almost unbearing.
- Please no it isn't fair!!
- It isn't fair, it isn't right!
- Tess Hutchins dies while being stoned to death by her fellow neighbors, which sadly ends the story.
