Texte du Storyboard

  • "Are you a stranger?"
  • "Come to my house...."
  • Beginning the flashback, Elisha is saying his prayers at a synagogue when he meets a beggar who is a "gaunt, shadowy fellow".
  • "I'm not from around here."
  • "Yes, I am."
  • Based on Hasidic literature, beggars could either be the Prophet Elijah or the Angel of Death. With this in mind, Elisha continues his interaction in a hesitant manner. They leave the synagogue because Elisha has to get back home. They converse about the characteristics of night time
  • "...Night is purer than day: it is better for thinking and loving and dreaming."
  • "Are you afraid of the dark?"
  • "..If you see a face, any face, than you can be sure that night has succeeded day.."
  • They both reach Elisha's house, the beggar still persists on not wanting to come in. Ultimately, the beggar tells Elisha how to truly distinguish the night from day
  • 1.This episode reveals that Elisha is very innocent and is uneasy about having to execute someone.2.This episode foreshadows the night before John's execution as his thoughts are more "pure" and his past experiences are more tangible to him.
