- Maple Street is a typical American suburban street, and the residents are doing normal everyday activities. Steve Brand is polishing his car while his neighbor, Don Martin, watches. Other people are biking, or gossiping in their lawns. It is a typical day on Maple Street.
- Climax
- A bright flash of light appears overhead, and the people of Maple Street think that it is a meteor. Suddenly all the power is out and there is no electricity, the phone isn't working, the stove is off, and the radio's are all dead. People are confused and wonder what happened. Tommy looks up at the sky, as well as Charlie and Les Goodman was inside.
- Falling Action
- Tommy tells everybody that this was almost exactly like the plot line of one of his alien stories. There is one family in this neighborhood who is different. People think that he is just a crazy kid. Les Goodman tries to start his car, but when he walks away it starts up without him. People start accusing Les Goodman of being the traitor, and many more.
- Resolution
- People start being a mob and they blame Steve, and Charlie, and no one knows who to trust. A figure comes from out of the darkness. People are scared and think it is the monster. Charlie impulsively shoots a shotgun and the person falls. They find out that the person in the shadows was Pete Van Horn, an innocent neighbor. Now Charlie is being accused.
- Charlie denies that it is him, and people start fighting in the streets. Charlie runs to his porch and says that he knows who it is. It is Tommy, the boy who said that there was someone unusual in the neighborhood, like his books. People believe Charlie. Now everyone is accusing everyone, and it is crazy. People blame almost everyone and everything.
- Two figures are talking in a metal spacecraft. They talk about how humans rip each other apart at the first sign of threat, even when there is nothing wrong. They decide that they will go to all the 'Maple Street's' in the world, and let them destroy themselves. They don't need to fight the humans, they are already fighting themselves.
