  • The Slave Breaker
  • When Frederick Douglass was 16 years old, he was rented out to a nearby farmer for one year. Edward Covey.
  • Your a nice young man.
  • Covey would come out in the evening ready to urge the slaves with his words. Frequently with the whip.
  • KEEP WORKING!!!!
  • On one of the hottest days, Douglass is so broken down and tired he collapses. To avoid punishment he runs off and hides in the woods.
  • I am broken down and tired, I can't work anymore. I have to hide.
  • WHERE IS HE!!!
  • Douglass tags along and stays with another fellow slave, he eventually has to go back, But before Douglass leaves is is handed a map of a root through the woods. 
  • Douglass you have to go back. But here! Before you leave take this root.
  • Douglass and Covey fight , and Douglass wins! He starts to feel hopeful about the future again because he stood up for himself.
  • WOW! I WON! Not only against Covey, but against my enslavement.
  • I won't mess with him ever again!
