  • At first women were expected to stay home and do the cooking, and cleaning, and all the other traditional ideals. They had barely any rights and couldn't vote.
  • 19th Amendment now passed. Woman can vote!
  • I'm real glad the the big cheese made this possible in our organization
  • Many people were worried about anti-corruption efforts of women. They were also worried that women voters would support minimum wage and child labor laws.

  • Despite the opposition, the women's suffrage movement began to gain national supports and the National American Women Suffrage Association was founded to promote the cause of women's suffrage and the right to vote.

  • Suffragists finally succeeded in gaining the vote, and in 1919 the U.S. congress passed the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote.
  • As time moved on women were going to college and getting degrees as nurses, teachers, librarians, and social workers. But also found opportunities in politics and voting.
  • Then younger women found other ways, including fashion, to express their freedom. They cut their hair short, and wore make-up and short dresses, challenging traditional ideals.
