  • Right. that's why we decided to fight in the war even though it's dangerous and many Indians might die.
  • Background info: The Indians are under the British government's control and they have very little rights.
  • So according to the British government if we fight in the WWI we can finally get a self-government.
  • How can the government lie to us? why can't we get our self-government? it's unfair. How can the British government control us however it wants in our own country.
  • The Indian soldiers are back from WWI many soldiers died and many are wounded. After coming from the war they were excited for their self-government but the British government refuse to make changes to the government.
  • We need to do something about it. We need independence from them .
  • So you're telling me that we went to WWI, lost our friends and family just to come back to hear that we did all that for nothing?
  • who are you and what do you mean by peaceful protest?
  • I'm Mohandas K. Gandhi. what I mean by peaceful protest is that we should not try to hurt others instead we would not listen to the British or follow the British government's laws.
  • I know how unfairly we are being treated in our own country. The government isn't keeping it's promise, and many died in the Amritsar massacre, but we shouldn't act violently instead we should all come together no matter what our religion is and protest peacefully in order to get our rights and independence from Britain.
  • If we don't buy cloths from the British how where would we get our cloths from?
  • Okay from now on we would make our cloths like you said.
  • we will make our own cloths. we don't need to depend on the British for our cloths. if we do that the Britain would suffer economically since it's a source of wealth for the British.
  • Now that we are all here let's protest peacefully by not buying British goods, not attending school, paying British taxes, or voting in elections.
  • So the Indians started to boycott British goods and as a result the sale of British cloths in India dropped.
  • We started to ignore British Laws, stopped buying British goods.
  • we are doing all the things you are telling us to do in order for us to protest peacefully but according to the British laws now we can't buy salt from anyone other than the British government and we also have to pay sales tax. what should we do now?
  • A few days later
  • The government said we can't buy goods from others but it didn't say that we can't make our own salt. From now on we will walk 240 miles to the seacoast and make our own salt.
  • No matter what we will keep protesting peacefully until we get our independence from Britain.
  • We finally got our rights thanks to Gandhi and his ideas about peaceful protest.
  • The Indians kept protesting peacefully no matter what and after a long time the British finally decided to give the Indians some rights. Due to Gandhi and his followers actions, the British passed the government of India Act in 1935 which gave Indians limited self rule.
