- The main setting is in Swat, Pakistan, but the setting changes sometimes. For example at the end of the book, when Malala transfers to a hospital in England.

- Do not go to school unless you wanna get hurt, girls!!!
- The conflict began in 2005, when the Taliban took over Swat, taking away the right for girls education.
