After the French & Indian, the British made American Colonists pay taxes to help pay for the costs of war. One of these taxes was know as the Stamp Act.
Boston Tea Party
We ain't paying taxes for this tea! Into the harbor it goes!
After the Stamp Act did not work out, the British decided to make a new tax called the Townshend Act. This put taxes on glass, paper, paints, and tea.

Many Boston merchants called for a boycott and British troops were sent in. The Bostonian's heckled the troops so much that one troop let out a shot and about six people got killed in what is now know as the Boston Massacre.

Most of the taxes were repealed, but not the tea tax. The Sons of Liberty retaliated by boycotting ships with tea and dumping them into the harbor.
The first Congress was made and wrote down a list of grievances to the crown, but they were ignored. Soon after the Declaration of Independence was written and the U.S.A broke away from Britain.
The British would not let their colonies go without a fight and the American Revolutionary War began. The U.S fought for their freedom and won.
