  • One major theme of The Monster Are Due on Maple Street' by Rod Serling is that mankind is its worst enemy. For example, when Mr. Goodman tried to start his car but it doesn't turn on ,but when he walked away it turned on all by its self. After this happened Don started to accused him of being the ailen . This supports the theme by showing that just because Mr. Goodman's car started by it self that people stared to turn on him. People were accusing Mr. Goodman that just because of what happened with the car that he is the ailen. Another example is when Charile shots Pete Von Horn because he was scared that the figure was a ailen. Charile and Pete Von Horn were neighbors but because his human reactions. He ended up taking his poor neighbors life away. This example show that Charile's reaction ending up taking someone life. Another example is at the end everyone started blaming each other because everyone was trying to find an scapegoat and everyone lights started to go on. This example shows that they started to blame each other and they escalate the problems. What I mean by they escalate the problem is that they started grabbing rocks, bricks, hammers, and other things to hurt each other. These example show why the theme is mankind is its worst enemy.
