Oedipus



Oedipus comes across the people of his city and the priest as they pray for help from their suffering and dying. Oedipus send creon to Pythian house.

When Creon returns from Pythian house, he stated that the city was unclean because Laius, the king before Oedipus, was murdered and they hadn't solved the crime. In order to get back to normal they have to find out who had murdered him so Oedipus asked his people if anyone knew about Laius's death or they shall be banished.



Oedipus states that he will do his duty to the god, and to the dead to find the unknown murderer and sends for Creon to get his advice. They bring in the blind prophet Teiresias, who is a witness, but he does not want to speak of the incident, but go home. But finally hears from the prophet that He is the cursed polluter of the land and the killer he seeks is himself, that he has sinned and his mother and father's curse will sweep him out of the land.

Creon returns and he and Oedipus argue that it was Creon that plotted to blame him for the death of Laius.



Oedipus asks questions of Jocasta when she entered, on what she knows of the death of Laius and she tells him what she knows about his birth parents. After Oedipus finds out there was a survivor, Oedipus orders that the shepherd be found and come to the city.







Back to present time, Oedipus heard the story of the king and the travelers and how the crime was committed. Oedipus hears of his father's death from a messenger who came into town. Now he thinks that with his father dead, he was not living out the prophecy he was told.
