- The Origins of the Universe
- A massive explosion named “Big Bang” has marked the start of our Universe.
- About 4.6 billion years ago…
- The universe then doubles its size 90 times, from the size of an atom to that of a golf ball.
- But the universe is hot, having a temperature of 10 trillion degrees.During the next 3 minutes, it cools down to 1 trillion degrees, allowing hydrogen, helium and lithium to form.
- The universe was still too hot for light to shine. That was until it’s 380,000 years old, when it cools down and light can finally escape. During this period, the first atoms were formed. 300 - 500 million years passed, and that is when stars and galaxies were born.
- 9 billion years after the Big Bang, the Sun forms. Leftover materials connect to form planets, including Earth.
- And it’s 5 billion years from when the Sun was created.Our universe has been through a very long time to be what it is today.
