Phase 4: The Northwest Company (N.W.C.) took over the french fur trade. Both the N.W.C and the H.B.C were competing and moved west where the supply of beavers was greater.

Phase 5: Britain got the HBC and the NWC to merge into the HBC, which trded across Canada.
