  • This is a peaceful black rights protest at a theater in Nashville, TN on February#160;of 1961. Black individuals were spit on and rocks were thrown at them during their peaceful movements.
  • This is a bus that was full of freedom riders (black rights activists). They were attacked on their way to Birmingham, outside of Anniston, Alabama.

  • Colored inmates would often sing songs in their packed cells. They were punished by having water slung on them and having their mattresses and tooth brushes taken away.
  • This is speaker A. Philip Randolph. He presented an idea for a march on Washington in 1941 . This is idea was later decided upon at a meeting in the white house June 22nd, 1963.
  • I think there are many reasons to read this book. One of the reasons is because it informs about a very serious time in our nations history. It goes into detail and comes from the perspective of John Lewis a colored activist.
