- During the selection, one guy got so tired he threw up. This is a perfect example of how bad the conditions were.

- Elizer did not fear death at all, death was an easy way out for him with all of this torture from the nazis.

- The son of Rabbi Eliahou was running as fast as he can. He was fearing he would be shot too just like his dad.

- Eliezer scoffed at Juliek for a stupid decision he made. Juliek was trying to make sure (despite the fact that they were being covered with bodies) that his violin didn't get broken.
- Eliezer's father was barely able to escape the Selection. This was because Eliezer had pushed his own father ahead so he wouldn't get shot during Selection.
- Due to the horrible feeding conditions, the jews were extremely skinny and had nothing to eat, and as soon as a piece of bread was involved, all the Jews went nuts and fought to the death.
