  • Hobbes helped influence the declaration of independence by creating the social contract. Hobbes said that the people should agree among themselves to lay down their natural rights of equality and freedom and give absolute power to a sovereign.
  • The sovereign would make and enforce the laws to secure a peaceful society, making life, liberty, and property possible. Hobbes called this agreement the “social contract.”

  • The Second treatise of government is Locke's most famous work.The book talks about the natural rights of people in society which are life liberty and property.He also talks about the people should start a revolution if the government is not respecting their rights.
  • The bill of rights turned the UK into a constitutional monarchy.The king or queen was not allowed to rule without the parliament's consent.They were also not allowed to tax their subjects without consent. They also could not create or change laws without consent.They were not allowed to influence the election in any way.
  • The bill of rights influenced today's government because in Canada we have a constitutional monarchy where the queen is head of state but her power is symbolic.
  • The bill of rights is created in 1689.
