- "As I opened my door , I heard a low whistle. My sister appeared at the door, her face blanched with terror. As she fell to the ground, she shrieked.
- Oh my God Helen! It was the band! The speckled band!
- She pointed in the direction of our stepfather's room, but a fresh convulsion seized her and choked her words.
- I rushed out, calling loudly for my stepfather. He sent for medical aid from the village but all the efforts were in vain.
- HELP!
- "Two years have passed since then, and my life has been lonelier than ever. "
