- Rainsford approaches the house and knocks. He is greeted by a large brute of a man with a revolver pointed at his face. Another man comes to the door. His name is general Zaroff and the brute is named Ivan. Zaroff invites him in because he recognized him as an expert hunter.
- They eat dinner and Zaroff explains his game and how animals are now so predictable.
- You can't possibly mean....
- What you speak of is murder
- I had grown board of hunting, animals were just to predictable. They had no wits or reason but, there is one that can.
- But why not?
- You have until night to prepare because it's so much more thrilling at night, yes?
- Rainsford can't think what to do so he runs and hides setting up traps for the 3 nights he must survive.
- After being on the run for the day, Rainsford can no longer outrun Zaroff so he must jump to save himself. Rainsford then swims to safety and ambushes Zaroff in his bedroom after breaking in. Zaroff announces Rainsford the winner, but Rainsford wants to kill him. Zaroff says that one of them will be sleeping in his bed and the other will be dead. Rainsford says that Zaroff's bed is the nicest one he's ever slept in.
