  • Think of the dancer as the case. Something interesting that you want to study. A case can be a person, a place, an institution, even an idea. Just like having more than one good dancer, there can also be more than one case!
  • We can think of the circle of spectators as the "bounds" of the case. It's very important that each case is bound well. The dancers that we place in our circle are what we are trying to understand. We aren't interested in what's happening outside the circle! We call this a "bounded system."
  • So, our "case" is what we are interested in studying. Maybe its this specific dancer, or this kind of dance, or multiple dancers over time. Whatever we place in our bounded system, or our dance circle, is our case. We're only interested in what's happening in our dance circle. All the dancers outside of it are not helpful to us. That's why having a clearly defined dance circle is so important!
