- Other citizens here are known as Yeomen. They own small farms and very few to no slaves. Yeomen work very long days. Some citizens who are very poor don't have the greatest land to grow crops on.
- Hello. I'm learning about the South, and I would like to know about society here. Could you tell me a few things?
- I can tell you a few things. A few people in the South are planters, which are the wealthiest citizens They own multiple slaves and quite a bit of farmland. You can go out in the back if you want to learn more about society.

- For us, it's terrible. We have to do all the work here, and it's exhausting. Ever since cotton became popular, we've been working so much more. We aren't treated fairly. We don't have as many rights as the slave owners do. They don't believe we can take care of ourselves, which is frustrating because like I said before, we do most of the work for them!
- Hello. What is it like living here in the South? How difficult is it?
- Glisser: 3
- We all like to tell folktales. A lot of our stories include a trickster. Most of us are Christian, too. We sing spiritual songs with each other. We believe that we are God's chosen people.
