  • EXPOSITION
  • Jamal Brown was entering his friend's house for a school project when his neighbor noticed that a boy of a different color was in her neighborhood. She dials 911 as she assumes that Jamal is robbing the house. Until we can have empathy and understanding of another person's struggle we'll continually be ideas to one another. - Acuna
  • Glisser: 2
  • CONFLICT
  • When the cop arrives, she explains to the cop what she witnessed. She accuses Jamal of breaking into the house as she has never seen a black person in the neighborhood before.
  • Glisser: 3
  • RISING ACTION
  • Without even knocking, the officer breaks through the door to find Jamal lying on the couch. He tells Jamal to get on his knees and put his hands on his head. there is a never-ending struggle to bridge the divide between police and a citizenry they took an oath to protect. - Jones, Romaine
  • Glisser: 4
  • CLIMAX
  • With little to no explanation, the cop puts Jamal in the cop car and drives him to the jail. He is in custody for robbery because there was another report of a robbery in the nearby neighborhood by another young black male.

  • FALLING ACTION
  • Cased Dismissed
  • The case is then taken to court after weeks of investigation. Jamal is proven innocent and the case is dismissed. Theofficer is then charged with false accusation and given jail time.
  • Glisser: 6
  • RESOLUTION
  • The cop is then put into jail while also losing his job as an officer. Jamal is rewarded for winning the case for getting falsely accused of robbing a house. Problems with community policing have been due not to the philosophy but to practitioners who usurp the title while still utilizing traditional policing strategies and who seek to implement changeswithout knowing what they are doing. - Freeman-Otte
