- "San Ysidro. Dear Sir. This is the one of the Chavez family by the name of Miguel...It was a hard wish to arrange, I know. And I want to thank you taking care of it, except I didn't know you'd do it by a letter. I said fix it up whichever way you could do it. But the things is this. If it's all right with you, I'd like to get my wish back. Don't want to be a lot of trouble for you, but the way things are, about going into the Mountain of Sangre de Cristo, I'd just as soon as wait around for anther four, five years, however long it takes, and then go when the regualr time comes for me to go" (Krumgold 186).
- " San Ysdiro. Dear Sir. This is Miguel Chavez who took up so much of your time last year. Things went all right year, and I have no complaints. thank you for last year.
