  • The Indus Valley civilization was the first civilization of the Indian subcontinent !The civilization had well-planned cities, astrong government, and an extensive trade network.Its politics, religion, and most of its history still remain a mystery due to the fact that we can not understand their writings .
  • Farming and trade were important economic activities to the advanced Indus Valley cities!
  • Farming began in the Indus Valley civilization in about 7000 B.CAs they continued farming, their supply and population grew.Later on, well-planned cities such asHarappa and Mohenjo-Daro had developed and they were the centers of advancement.Archaeologists even discovered irrigationchannels, granaries, and brick-lined sewers.

  • Wealthy families lived comfortable lives. Their homes had walls and bathrooms with pipes. And some even had toilets, which were considered the first in the world!

  • The economy of the Indus Valley civilization was an agriculturaleconomy. The farmers grew wheat and barley .In addition, they domesticated animals such as oxen or cattle to pull carts for transportation.Archaeologists have also found jewelry, pottery, and stone seals that belonged to them.

  • Archeological evidence shows that theIndus Valley people were organizedand had a strong central governmentdue to their high level of planning. Some statues were found that looked like Hinduism god statues ; archaeologists suggest that their religion was Hinduism
  • YES, they disappeared at about 1700. It is still a mystery as to why they disappeared but some reasons may include spread of a disease or heavy flooding
