- This is demonstrated a few times throughout the book. After Wallace is unable to play football, most of his teammates don't show up to help him with his yard work.

- He doesn't like the book he had to write a report on because he's tired of books where dogs die. Rather than accepting his opinion, his teacher decides to give him detention.
- Dead Dogs
- When he is asked by his teacher, Mr. Fogelman gives him an incomplete and holds him in detention until it's completed. His teacher gave him detention because he was trying to tell me something about a book and the teacher was wrong so he got mad.
