  • Watson, what do you think about this walking cane?
  • Well, Holmes, I think that the man, Dr. Mortimer, is probably a wealthy country doctor who walks a great deal.

  • The story begins in a house with the address of 221B Baker Streetwhere John Watson, the narrator of the story, walks in and finds Sherlock Holmes, Watson`s roommate and detective, observing a cane which was accidentally left in their office.
  • Come In!
  • Halloa Mr. Hol...There is my walking cane! I am very relieved for I did not know where I had put it.
  • Holmes invites Watson to make his own observations of the cane.
  • This is a story of the Curse of the Baskervilles...
  • Watson observes the cane and attempts to conjure a theory of the origin of the walking stick. Sherlock Holmes congratulates him but inevitably corrects a few mistakes of Watson`s observation. Suddenly, the doorbell rings and Holmes quickly answers it.
  • We would like to meet the bloke.
  • I need your help with a problem of mine, Sir Henry Baskerville.
  • Dr. Mortimer entered the door and noticed that Mr. Holmes was holding his cane and was instantly relieved due to his ignorance of its location.
  • Dr. Mortimer enters Holmes and Watson`s office, and he retrieves a manuscript which tells of the legend of Hugo Baskerville and The Hound of the Baskervilles.
  • Once Dr. Mortimer finishes his story, Holmes confesses that he is interested in it. Dr. Mortimer then asks Holmes for assistance with the problem of Sir Henry Baskerville, heir to Sir Charles Baskerville`s wealth, and Holmes agrees to help.
