- This impacts the conflict of the story by telling the reader the reason why Cole had to go to the justice Circle and why he had to go to the island.
- Cole jumped on him again and started smashing his head against the sidewalk, It took six students to finally pull him away, By then Peter was cowering on the blood smeared sidewalk, sobbing. (page 8)
- Person vs society
- This scene affects the main conflict because it reveals the reason why Cole went to the island and got mauled by a spirit bear.
- Cole is a risk to our children and to our community another person in the circle said We cant risk his release (page 58)
- Person vs Nature
- This scene affects the conflict because its the transition of how Cole realized that he wasn't as tough as he thought he was and how he became nicer and actually wanting to change.
- A blur of white motion deflectedthe shaft down into the grass as the bear lunged. Cole never even had time to raise the knife before the bear was on him, clubbing him down with a powerful blow. (p.83)
