  • On this date King Louise XVI was executed by the commoners. The new French parliament found the king guilty for "high treason." His execution was with a guillotine. This was the first time after thousands of years that France wasn't ruled by a monarch. He was also sentenced to death after 24 hours.
  • Coup of 18-19 Brumaire November 9-10
  • The revolutionary government ordered the arrests and executions of thousands of people during this tragic period. Also known as "the terror" there were state-sanctioned violence and mass execution. It began with a declaration by Robespierre that brought daily terror. It ended when Robespierre was removed from power and executed. During the time of terror France was ruled by a group called the Committee of Public Safety.
  • The parliamentary revolt initiated on 9 thermidor which was this series of events on the thermidorian reaction. 9 thermidor was a series of events that started with Robespierre's address to the national convention. His arrest was the next day, and his execution following. This was the result of the falling of the reign of terror. Robespierre was also the president of the National Convention.
  • On this day the commoners over threw the system. They also substituted the Consulate. They were making way for the despotism of Napoleon. There was a great frustration with leadership and they reached a fever pitch. This event marked for the end of the French Revolution and they made a new government.
