  • Mus 106: Week 5 Discussion That Time When Mozart & Beethoven Were Each Others Hype Men...
  • Late at night at a pub in Vienna...
  • "Well isn't it the child prodigy himself?!"
  • "Beethoven, Ol'Boy! Haha You're the prodigy!
  • "Make sure you speak up, dear fellow! I'm hard of hearing as of late!"
  • "Sure thing Beethoven!!"
  • Beethoven: You flatter me so! I only played piano endlessly because my father wanted to impress high society! You, sir, are the real prodigy! Let's be real Mozart! At 8 years old you wrote your first symphony. At 12 years old you wrote an opera. My god man! You were brilliant! And still are! I wasn't able to do such things! Mozart: Beethoven! Maybe I got you beat there, but you, sir, bridged the gap between the classical period and the romantic! You are so competent in your composing in the predetermined classical style. This evolution of music is so far advanced that you pushed music into the Romantic period! That's insane!!! Beethoven: You are too kind sir. My success is your success. You came before me. That means the foundation of my music was built upon you and the other composers before me!
  • Mozart: I am humbled by your words, kind sir! Beethoven: Ha! "Kind sir." I'm known for my defiant, fiery disposition. Mozart: Aw, yes! I have heard of that! But, it's no worse than me. I've been known to be insubordinate and have been fired for being disrespectful.
  • Beethoven: You've turned out 600 works, Moz! All of them PERFECTION. You can't be ALL things. Mozart: Thank you, friend. I may have 600 works, but your 100 works have a depth and rawness to them that my music lacks. You are known for your mastery of the motivic melody. Your 5th Symphony, Beethoven! Need I say more?! Beethoven: Moz, you sell yourself too short! Your music has a jewel like perfection. If you changed even one note the piece would sound completely off. Your music has clarity, balance and transparency.
  • Mozart: Maybe so, but at least your most recognizable piece isn't for toddlers! Beethoven: Ha! That's not true, Moz! Sonata No. 11, specifically, Alla Turca, is one of my favorites from you! And besides, where would the state of our children be without Twinkle Little Star/ABC??! Mozart: You're, once again, right Beethoven. We don't want our children turning into little Bonapartes.
  • Beethoven: Don't speak his name!!! I've never felt so betrayed! Mozart: I'm sorry old friend. I heard you changed your third symphony to "Erocia" instead of "Bonaparte." Beethoven: Yes. I couldn't bear to have such a man be the name of one of my symphonies.
  • Mozart: Speaking of symphonies, I listened to your Ninth Symphony! What do you call a symphonic work with chorus? Beethoven: A choral Symphony! Mozart: Aw, yes! I'm sure that will be cherished throughout the Romantic Period.
  • Beethoven: Do you know who will be cherished for years to come? You, Mozart. You composed masterfully in every musical format. You accomplished so much by the age of 35. You not only inspire me, but inspire so many others. I'm honored to have lived in the same space and time with you. Mozart: Dear friend, thank you. I was talking about you the other day to someone and said to them to "Keep your eyes on him, someday he will give the world something to talk about." My dear Beethoven, you already have. Beethoven: Thank you for saying that, Mozart. It means the world to me. I hate to say this, but I have to turn in. I have a busy day tomorrow. I'm still working on my symphony. Not everyone can turn out three symphonies in a week! Haha! Goodnight dear friend! Mozart: Goodnight!
  • "Good night, dear friend!"
  • "Goodnight!"
  • The End
