- Our main character, Thomas, is brought up in a box and he is confused and disoriented. The box eventually comes to a stop and the box opens. Thomas is greeted by a vast number of boys. He is then called names and taken out of the box.
- Climax
- Thomas finds himself trapped in a massive maze called the Glade. with each wall having a door that opens at dawn and closes at dusk. Thomas feels that he must be a runner and feels that he needs to solve the maze and find his way out.
- Falling Action
- Days later, Thomas sees that Minho is going to get stuck in the maze. Thomas decides to enter the maze and Minho and Thomas are chased by grievers. They eventually make it out. After this things start to change drastically. One such things is that the doors to the maze don't close and the sun disappears
- Resolution
- Minho and Thomas go into the maze after the sun disappears. They find a griever in the maze and follow it and the griever ends up flying off the cliff. Thomas and Minho suspect something so they gather a bunch of rocks to throw off the edge. They eventually find a small invisible box in which their rocks disappear into and where the grievers go.
- Thomas, Minho, Newt, Teresa, and other gladers go to the cliff to jump through the griever hole. The gladers encounter about 2 dozen grievers. They end up having to fight the grievers to make it to the hole. They eventually make it through with about half of them dying. They find a box and escape through it.
- Thomas and all the gladers find Gally, who kills Chuck. Thomas is torn up by this because he promised to return Chuck to home or find him a home, but instead ends up getting killed. All the surviving gladers are then picked up by a helicopter and taken away to somewhere. This place is not specified. We hope it is somewhere safe for them that was better than the glade.
