  • The Six Ladies accompanied by a chorus of women reveal themselves to Giovanni informing him that he is in Hell. • A trial based on Giovanni's deeds begins. Leporello brings out the infamous 'Catalogue' as evidence against his former master. He begins to outline all of his masters conquests. There are hundreds. (ENSEMBLE)
  • ACT I
  • The trial is halted when Giulia enters. Walking slowly and aimlessly, she talks of beautiful and lovely flowers as she drops roses in her wake. She is seemingly out of place and time and is unaffected by those around her. (ARIA)
  • Giovanni attempts to flirt with Giulia, admiring her beauty. He tries to talk to her and offers her one of her fallen roses, but she gives no response. She then grabs his hand and whispers to him "It's your fault." and then vanishes. (RECIT)
  • The trial continues as if unaffected by the pause. Giovanni falters momentarily, but recovers.
  • The Commendatore enters. Giovanni begins a sword fight with him and stabs him in the chest. The old man does not flinch or fall, but merely says, "Again." This happens three or four times with the same result. The crowd of onlookers berate and catcall an increasingly tiring Giovanni until he declares enough and claims a hollow victory over his foe.
  • The trial concludes with Giovanni being named guilty. End of Act I
