- Macbeth, one of Shakespeare’s greatest works of art, is a tragedy that is thought to have been first performed in 1606. It dramatizes the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power.

- Macbeth and Banquo meet the three witches. The three witches tell the men 3 prophecies where Macbeth will be the Thane of Cawdor
- " All hail Macbeth!  that  shalt be king hereafter"
- "Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor"
- "He bade me, from him, call thee Thane of Cawdor"
- The witches disappear and Ross arrives to declare Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth and Banquo then head to Duncan's castle where they are praised and Macbeth sends a letter to his wife, Lady Macbeth, telling her about what happened.
- “My thought whose murther is yet but fantastical"
- Lady Macbeth receives the letter jubilantly. Yet, she thinks Macbeth is too kind to harm anyone to become king faster. So, she is determined to convince Macbeth with her evil plot against Duncan.
