- Dubose had been in pain, and because of it, had become addicted to morphine. But Mrs. Dubose had wanted to stop being addicted. So she used Jem's reading to keep her distracted from the pain, and every day she was able to put off taking her medicine a little longer until she broke her addiction.
- After Tom Robinson is arrested, the city storms the jail. They assume he is guilty and want to take action, proving their racism.

- GOOD/BAD: Boo Radley is initially viewed by the children as a terrible person. They often teased and told stories about him. However, Boo proves to be good through his actions, helping Scout and Jem learn a lesson.
