- Mountain Men in Oregon Country
- Lets go trade some of the fur we have.

- How are we ever going to be able to cross this river and mountains?

- Manifest Destiny
- Let's head west!
- I agree! It is what God wants us to do.
- The mountain men were fur traders who liked to explore. They would help lead settlers and show them their way through the mountains on their journeys.
- Mexican-American War
- Well we want more land!
- The Oregon Trail was a path from Independence, Missouri to Oregon. The pioneers on their way to settle in the west faced many difficulties like sickness, starvation, the hard roads they had to get through, and death.
- Mormons in Utah
- This is a perfect place to settle!
- The Manifest Destiny was when Americans traveled west because they believed it was what God wanted them to do.  They believed that it was their right to expand beyond where they were and this made more Americans want to move westward.
- California Gold Rush
- Did you find anything yet?
- Yes! I found a few pieces.
- The Mexican-American war was when Mexico and America fought because the US got Texas and Mexico still wanted to be in control and overall wanted to have more land in the west. The Americans won the war and in the end got California, New Mexico, and Arizona.
- We want control over Texas!
- Mormons were treated harshly in the east so they wanted a place to practice their beliefs without being persecuted. Thousands of Mormons traveled to Utah for a new place to live and since their weren't very many people living there.
- We should name it Salt Lake City.
- Gold was discovered in California, when people found this out they rushed to find it. People would come from all over and settled In California to find the gold until there was none left to find.
