Texte du Storyboard

  • I do Arveragus.
  • Do you vow to always respect each other and practice the strictest forbearance towards one another's words and actions?
  • I miss my husband, I could die right now. These rocks have taken so many lives, will my husband be next?
  • I have been secretly in love with you for two years. please be mine!
  • I love my husband only but fine. If you can remove all the rocks off the coast of Brittany you will have my love.
  • Arveragus is a brave, wealthy, and honorable knight who longs for a bride. He meets and marries Dorigen, a lovely young woman, and the two make a pledge to always respect one another and exercise the strictest restraint toward one another's words and deeds.
  • Please I will pay you 1,000 pounds if your magic can clear the coast of rocks.
  • You have a deal. I will create an illusion so it appears the rocks are gone.
  • The knight departs for England shortly after the wedding and stays there for two years. Dorigen fasts, weeps, and mourns her husband's absence while he is away. Throughout her despair, she often sits on the shore. She worries about the safety of her own husband as she considers the rocks at the sea, where so many people have perished.
  • You made a promise which you know must stand / And gave your plighted troth into my hand/ To love me best.
  • This can't be! I must kill myself.
  • I love you but you must keep your promise
  • One day Dorigen agrees to go on a picnic with friends when a dance is performed. Aurelius, who has been secretly in love with Dorigen for two years, is at the dance. Aurelius finally confesses his love, but Dorigen rejects him. In an effort to lift Aurelius out of his sadness, Dorigen half-jokingly offers to accept his love and affection in exchange for him clearing the Brittany coast of all rocks.
  • My husband has sent me to be with you. I am your wife now
  • He is honorable please return to him.
  • For two years, Aurelius is ill. His brother finally discovers a solution to the problem: He is reminded of a student who claimed to have cracked the magic's hidden codes contained in priceless books. If the student magician's wizardry clears the coast of rocks, Aurelius will pay him 1,000 pounds. The student magician concurs, and the act is carried out.
  • Dorigen is then urged by Aurelius to honor her commitment. Dorigen remembers reading about women who had committed suicide rather than bring shame upon themselves. Dorigen was appalled and considering suicide at the time.
  • When Arveragus eventually arrives home, he discovers his wife on the ground, crying. When Dorigen explains the details of her agreement, he commands her to follow her word, despite how deeply saddened he is by it. Dorigen presents herself to Aurelius. Dorigen is sent back to her husband, much to Dorigen's relief, by Aurelius after learning about Arveragus' noble character and selfless sacrifice.
  • Then Aurelius gathers all his gold together, only to discover that he can pay only half of what he owes the student-magician. When the student-magician learns that Dorigen was relieved of her part of the bargain, the student-magician cancels Aurelius' entire debt.
