  • In 1872, Standard Oil Company had acquired its rival, Ohio Refinery 22/26, within six weeks. Ida Tarbell was only 14 at the time when she experienced the impact first hand. The 1872 Cleveland massacre caused permanent damage to her father's oil company which devastated him.

  • As an adult, Ida has become a successful writer for McClure magazines. She chose that her next published book was about how Rockefeller made an unfair deal with a railroad company to create a monopoly with Standard Oil Trust.

  • Ida risked herself by attacking great trust. Even getting warned because of her actions, her father, Franklin Tarbell was nervous for Ida. However, in 1902 she began publishing her articles in the journal.
