  • Gabriel, we have finally made it. This is Elsewhere. The land I have wondered so much about. We should go explore the town. Maybe you and I could live here for the rest of our lives. We'll sleep then explore tomorrow morning.
  • Seems like this town is pretty quaint. Much better than our community. Let's go to that building over there. Maybe they could help us find some information and maybe even get me an assignment that's the right fit for me.
  • How is Father and Mother? Am I going to be safe?
  • 3. Jonas, I realized after you left, that I was getting more and more worn out and can't hold all these memories anymore. I need to finish giving them to you, here in Elsewhere. We can live together and stay here. And look! I even saw Rosemary for the first time in 10 years!
  • 1. Hello Jonas. Remember me?
  • 4. Hi Jonas! My father told me all about you! You seem like a very wise boy.
  • 2. Giver???? How did you get here? I thought you weren't able to come with me.
  • How is the Giver here???
  • After coming down the hill, Jonas and Gabriel arrived to Elsewhere. They went to sleep and then explored the town in the morning. They hoped that this community wasn't like his home from before-the one where they had escaped from.
  • Father, be easy on the boy.
  • Jonas, I know this isn't where we usually transfer memories but since it is the quietest place I know so it will work just fine. Close your eyes Jonas. I am going to transfer the rest of the memories I have to you. I never told you this, but once I can't take it anymore, I can send them to you all at once. You are going to feel so many different emotions but stay strong Jonas.
  • Yes Giver. Do whatever you need to do. I think I am able to live through the pain.
  • The next morning, Jonas and Gabriel awoke, walked around town and found a large building that reminded them of their community. Jonas wondered if the building could give them any information they may need about this community. Was it like his community from before?
  • Look at that running stream. Lovely!
  • Lovely town isn't it? What a great way to spend the day.
  • Jonas walked into the building which led into a long narrow hallway. He walked down it and came to a large brown door. Jonas opened the door to the Giver and his Rosemary there to greet him! He was in such shock and disbelief.
  • Giver, I will miss you. I won't forget about the memories you gave me. I won't let you down.
  • R.I.PGiverReceiver of Memories
  • Jonas was taken to the quietest room the Giver knew about. Quietness was key when giving memories to Jonas. The Giver decided that he needed to give Jonas the rest of his memories, or else, he would not live. The Giver wanted to live a little longer so that he could spend time with his daughter, Rosemary.
  • As months past, the Giver aged. He was no longer able to walk and had to use a wheelchair. He knew that he only had a short amount of time left to spend with Jonas, Gabriel and his daughter Rosemary.
  • After a year spent in Elsewhere, the Giver died. All of his memories had already been given to Jonas. Jonas was only going to use the memories for when he really needed to. Before the Giver left, he told Jonas to start giving the memories to Gabriel and to find him an assignment as receiver of memories. Jonas told the Giver not to worry and that he wouldn't let him down. The Giver knew Jonas was a good boy and would follow his commands. Jonas knew that Gabriel would have the wisdom to be a receiver of memories-because of his eyes.
  • Father, why do you have to leave me? I wish I spent more time with you. I love you.
