- Opioids are a class of drugs which include the illegal drug heroin such as fentanyl. These opioids are made with the sole purpose to function as pain killers but instead have been consumed by people go obtain a high. Opioid use has increased over decades resulting in the leading factor of 66% of deaths caused by overdose. The fact that opioids are so easily accessible to teens is concerning. 4 out of 5 people who use opioids began by misusing prescription pain medications other ways known as illegal street drugs. People who use prescription opioids can feel relaxed happy but can also experience drowsiness, confusion, nausea, constipation, and slowed breathing.
